The 3-Day Yu‑Gi‑Oh! TRADING CARD GAME event saw 2333 players compete for a spot at the prestigious event
Konami Digital Entertainment B.V. (KONAMI) is excited to reveal the 7 Duelists that have earned their right to compete and represent Europe on a global scale at the upcoming Yu‑Gi‑Oh! World Championship in Seattle, in the Yu‑Gi‑Oh! TRADING CARD GAME (TCG) category.
This past weekend, the Yu‑Gi‑Oh! TCG saw a very thrilling and action-packed 3 days at the European World Championship Qualifier (WCQ) in Berlin, Germany. As was the case last year, 3 spots to the Yu‑Gi‑Oh! WCS were awarded to the best Duelists from the World Qualifying Points (WQP) Playoff on Friday 26th of July, while 4 more Duelists managed to earn their spot through the Main Event of the European WCQ that concluded on Sunday 28th of July, with Esteban Re being crowned the European Champion.
Qualifying Yu‑Gi‑Oh! TCG Duelists for the WCS 2024 from the European WCQ:
Champion: Esteban Re (Italy), playing Tenpai Dragon
Finalist: Julio Valls (Spain), playing Ritual Beasts
Semi-finalists: Giovanni Barone (Italy), playing Fiendsmith Yubel; Samuel Béboux (Switzerland) playing Fiendsmith Snake-Eyes
WCS Points Qualifiers: Gabriel Netz (United Kingdom), playing Fiendsmith Snake-Eyes; Baptiste Derouin (France), playing Fiendsmith Snake-Eyes; Anthony Lopes (Luxembourg) playing Fiendsmith Snake-Eyes
Both the thrilling WQP Playoff as well as the exciting Main Event of the European WCQ have been covered extensively with an official livestream on the YuGiOhCardEU YouTube channel, where you can also watch highlights from the event.
World Qualifying Points Playoff is a special annual tournament, where the top 16 Duelists from Europe, Middle East & Africa Duel against each other for a chance to earn an invitation to the prestigious Yu‑Gi‑Oh! World Championship. The top 16 is determined by the amount of points that players have earned throughout the competitive season by performing well in big Yu‑Gi‑Oh! TCG events such as Yu‑Gi‑Oh! Championship Series (YCS), WCQ National and State Championships, WCQ Regional Qualifiers, Yu‑Gi‑Oh! OPEN Events, and OTS Championships.
Performing well at the aforementioned competitive events also awards Duelists with an invitation to that season’s European WCQ. Earning such an invitation is crucial if one wishes to register for the prestigious event, being the culmination of the Yu‑Gi‑Oh! TCG competitive season in Europe.
While the 2024 Yu‑Gi‑Oh! TCG competitive season is coming to a close with the Yu‑Gi‑Oh! WCS taking place in Seattle on 7th-8th September, the first big events of the 2025 season have already been announced. Duelists will not want to miss out on attending a special celebration event – the 275th YCS, in Lille on 27th – 29th September, or the following YCS Bologna on 22nd – 24th November. Both events will fill up quickly, with players eager to compete on an international scene and earn those valuable World Qualifying Points for the next season.
