Dragon Duel Organised Play Updates for Europe and Oceania

Date:  23 février 2023

Following the return to in-person events in 2022, we are continuing to evaluate how best to implement Organised Play for our Duelists in Europe and Oceania.

Today we have some changes to announce relating to Dragon Duel events.

Dragon Duels are our tournaments run for younger Duelists. Dragon Duel events are available only to Duelists born in and after a certain year; this year is updated following a World Championship season.

Previously in Europe and Oceania, Duelists would compete at the Dragon Duel World Championship Qualifier (WCQ), hosted during Summer in Europe and Winter in Oceania. The top Duelists at each of these Dragon Duel WCQ events would earn a spot at the Dragon Duel World Championship.

Moving forwards, we will replace the Dragon Duel World Championship and Dragon Duel World Championship Qualifier (WCQ) with a new system. We will be introducing a replacement event to the Dragon Duel World Championship Qualifier; this event will be called the Dragon Duel Championship. The Dragon Duel Championship will be a once per year event, open to all Dragon Duelists that meet the age restriction for the Organised Play Season. The winners of this event will win a trip to Jump Festa in Japan alongside a nominated guardian, they will also receive a gift package from KONAMI!

If Jump Festa is not held for any reason, alternate prizing will be made available to the winner of the Dragon Duel Championship and a guardian instead once it is known Jump Festa will not be held, and will be included in the event FAQ if possible.

We will continue to offer Dragon Duel events awarding top-placing Dragon Duelists qualification to the all-ages World Championship Qualifiers. These events are Dragon Duel Regional Qualifiers, Dragon Duel National Championship and Dragon Duel State Championship. Dragon Duelists will continue to be eligible to compete in all-ages events such as National Championships, Regional Qualifiers, and Yu‑Gi‑Oh! Championship Series, with the chance of earning invites to the World Championship Qualifier in their region.

These changes will take effect immediately and will be in place for the next WCQ. We look forward to seeing you there!
