YCS Sydney 2025 Coverage - Top 8 Feature

We are now in the Top 8 of YCS Sydney 2025. 3 more matches before we crown our champion. Sneaking in amongst all the Ryzeal and Maliss strategies up here is the lone Blue-Eyes White Dragon player. Is it the player’s skill or the power of the Deck? Perhaps it’s a combination as the pilot is Kunlun Lei; the winner of the 2023 Oceanic Championship, who went to the World Championships that year to represent the continent. His opponent is Anthony Nguyen from Melbourne, who is the last remaining Ryzeal player in the tournament - playing a Fiendsmith engine.

Game 1

Kunlun has a hand of 2 copies of Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, Mulcharmy Fuwalos, Primite Drillbeam and Triple Tactics Talent.

Anthony will play with 2 copies of Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, Fiendsmith’s Tract, Lacrima the Crimson Tears and Ext Ryzeal.

Kunlun starts. With no proactive plays, he ends his turn.

Anthony draws and starts his turn with Fiendsmith’s Tract. Fiendsmith’s Tract will resolve, adding and discarding Fabled Lurrie - which Special Summons itself. Fabled Lurrie is used to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Requiem, which is tributed for its effect. Kunlun uses Mulcharmy Fuwalos in response, but Anthony stops it with Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Fiendsmith’s Requiem Special Summons Lacrima the Crimson Tears, sending Fiendsmith Engraver from Deck to Graveyard. Fiendsmith Engraver shuffles back Fabled Lurrie to Special Summon itself, and then the Fiendsmith’s Requiem equips to Lacrima the Crimson Tears, which is then used to Special Summon Necroquip Princess. Anthony uses Fiendsmith Engraver and Necroquip Princess to Xyz Summon D/D/D Wave High King Caesar. He proceeds to Special Summon Ext Ryzeal, sending Ryzeal Detonator from his Extra Deck and follows up with a Special Summon of Node Ryzeal, using Ext Ryzeal and Node Ryzeal to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Duo Drive - attaching the Ryzeal Detonator from the Graveyard. Ryzeal Duo Drive’s effect is then stopped by Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. In the Battle Phase, D/D/D Wave High King Caesar and Ryzeal Duo Drive attack for 5900 damage, before Anthony ends his turn.

Kunlun draws Primite Dragon Ether Beryl and immediately activates Primite Drillbeam, revealing the drawn Primite Dragon Ether Beryl to banish D/D/D Wave High King Caesar. He Normal Summons Primite Dragon Ether Beryl and Anthony uses Lacrima the Crimson Tears in Graveyard, shuffling itself into the Deck to Special Summon back Fiendsmith’s Requiem. Primite Dragon Ether Beryl sets Primite Lordly Lode from Deck, and the Primite Drillbeam in the Graveyard sets itself to the field. Primite Lordly Lode is activated, adding a second Primite Dragon Ether Beryl from the Deck. Primite Dragon Ether Beryl is used to Link Summon Spirit with Eyes of Blue, which adds Mausoleum of White - which is used to send Blue-Eyes White Dragon from the Deck to the Graveyard. Kunlun then tries to use Triple Tactics Talent to draw, but that gets stopped by Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Spirit with Eyes of Blue is tributed to Special Summon Blue-Eyes White Dragon from the Graveyard and Anthony uses Fiendsmith’s Requiem to tribute itself and Special Summon Lacrima the Crimson Tears from Deck, sending Fiendsmith in Paradise. Kun then Xyz Summons Super Starslayer TY-PHON - Sky Crisis. Anthony attempts to use the Fiendsmith in Paradise but Kunlun stops it with Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Kunlun uses Super Starslayer TY-PHON - Sky Crisis’s effect to return Ryzeal Detonator to the Extra Deck, and attacks over Lacrima the Crimson Tears.

Anthony draws and uses Fiendsmith Engraver to shuffle back Fiendsmith’s Requiem to the Extra Deck and Special Summon itself, before immediately Link Summoning back the Fiendsmith’s Requiem, which tributes itself to Special Summon Fiendsmith Engraver from Deck. Anthony equips Fiendsmith’s Requiem to the Fiendsmith Engraver and then uses Fiendsmith Engraver’s effect to send both the Fiendsmith’s Requiem and Super Starslayer TY-PHON - Sky Crisis to the Graveyard. As Kunlun is on 2100 LP, Anthony Xyz Summons his own Super Starslayer TY-PHON - Sky Crisis and attacks - but Kunlun activates Primite Drillbeam, revealing a Primite Dragon Ether Beryl and banishing Super Starslayer TY-PHON - Sky Crisis.

Kunlun draws Infinite Impermanence for turn, and in the Standby Phase adds back Primite Dragon Ether Beryl from his Graveyard. He then Normal Summons Primite Dragon Ether Beryl using its effect to set, then activate Primite Lordly Lode to add his third copy of Primite Dragon Ether Beryl. Primite Drillbeam is once again set from the Graveyard. Primite Dragon Ether Beryl is used to Link Summon Spirit with Eyes of Blue and again is tributed to Special Summon Blue-Eyes White Dragon. Mausoleum of White then sends a second copy of Blue-Eyes White Dragon from the Deck to the Graveyard. In the Battle Phase, Kunlun attacks for 4400. He sets Infinite Impermanence and uses Primite Lordly Lode to Special Summon Blue-Eyes White Dragon from Graveyard. In the End Phase, Anthony once again uses Lacrima the Crimson Tears to shuffle itself back and summon Fiendsmith’s Requiem from the Graveyard.

Anthony draws, and in the Main Phase tributes Fiendsmith’s Requiem to Special Summon Lacrima the Crimson Tears from his Deck. Fiendsmith Engraver shuffles back a second copy of Fiendsmith Engraver from the Graveyard to Special Summon itself. Fiendsmith’s Requiem is equipped to the Fiendsmith Engraver and then for Fiendsmith Engraver’s effect alongside Kunlun’s Defense position Blue-Eyes White Dragon. Anthony then Special Summons Bystial Druiswurm, banishing the Blue-Eyes White Dragon that was just sent to the Graveyard. Anthony uses Bystial Druiswurm and Fiendsmith Engraver to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Sequence and uses the Bystial Druiswurm to destroy the Blue-Eyes White Dragon on the field. Anthony uses Fiendsmith’s Sequence effect, but Kunlun uses Primite Drillbeam to negate and banish the Fiendsmith’s Sequence. In the Battle Phase, Lacrima the Crimson Tears attacks for 1200, putting Kunlun to 900. In Main Phase 2, Anthony Link Summons Fiendsmith’s Requiem using Lacrima the Crimson Tears.

Kunlun draws Pot of Prosperity. He starts with Normal Summoning Primite Dragon Ether Beryl, then uses Pot of Prosperity - banishing 6 monsters from his Extra Deck, revealing 2 Effect Veiler, 2 Wishes for Eyes of Blue and Dominus Purge - adding a Wishes for Eyes of Blue. He activates Wishes for Eyes of Blue, discarding Primite Dragon Ether Beryl, adding Sage with Eyes of Blue and Majesty of the White Dragons. He additionally Normal Summons Sage with Eyes of Blue, adding Maiden of White, before sending it to place True Light into Spell/Trap Zone. True Light sets Roar of the Blue-Eyed Dragons, which is used to Special Summon the banished Blue-Eyes White Dragon. Primite Drillbeam is set back to the field. Sage with Eyes of Blue and Blue-Eyes White Dragon are used to Synchro Summon Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon. At this point, Anthony uses Fiendsmith’s Requiem to tribute itself and summon Fiendsmith Engraver. Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon attacks Fiendsmith Engraver and Primite Dragon Ether Beryl attacks directly for 2800. Kunlun ends his turn.

Anthony draws and concedes, coming just short in a game that was very grindy.
