YCS Sydney 2025 Coverage - Round 7 Feature

We’ve seen a few players locally and down South, but this round we’re featuring two players who come from up North. We have Micah Catelan from Brisbane, who plays at Good Games Strathpine. He brings with him his Phantom Knight Horus Fiendsmith Deck. He topped YCS Sydney 2024 with the Phantom Knight Deck, so its safe to say that it is his pet Deck. His opponent is Brennan Sive from the beautiful Gold Coast, one of the places Australia is known for. He plays at Good Games Gold Coast and has brought today his Maliss Deck.

Game 1

Brennan opens a hand of Bystial Magnamhut, Maliss Chessy Cat, Maliss White Rabbit , Bystial Saronir and Dominus Impulse. Micah will play with his own Bystial Magnamhut, as well as The Phantom Knights of Ancient Cloak, The Phantom Knights of Torn Scales, Speedroid Terrortop, Bystial Druiswurm and Mulcharmy Fuwalos.

Brennan will start the match, but Micah makes the first move by discarding his Mulcharmy Fuwalos. Brennan Normal Summons Maliss Chessy Cat and banishes the Maliss White Rabbit in hand to draw 2 cards, Special Summoning back the Maliss White Rabbit and setting Maliss <C> TB-11. Maliss White Rabbit and Maliss Chessy Cat are used to Link Summon I:P Masquerena. Micah draws The Phantom Knights of Ragged Gloves. Brennan then Special Summons Bystial Magnamhut by banishing his Maliss Chessy Cat and Special Summons it back. During the End Phase, Brennan resolves the effect of Bystial Magnamhut to add Bystial Baldrake. Micah Special Summons his Bystial Druiswurm, banishing Brennan’s Maliss White Rabbit.

Micah draws Phantom Knight’s Fog Blade for turn. During the Main Phase, Brennan activates I:P Masquerena’s effect as well as Maliss <C> TB-11 to Special Summon Maliss White Rabbit . At resolution, Maliss White Rabbit, Maliss Chessy Cat and I:P Masquerena are used to Link Summon Maliss <Q> Hearts Crypter. Micah Normal Summons The Phantom Knights of Ragged Gloves. Brennan uses Maliss <Q> Hearts Crypter to return his banished Maliss White Rabbit to the Deck and banish the The Phantom Knights of Ragged Gloves. Micah enters the Battle Phase and attacks with Bystial Druiswurm into Maliss <Q> Hearts Crypter, which both have 2500 ATK - destroying both and then using Bystial Druiswurm’s effect to destroy Bystial Magnamhut. In Main Phase 2, Micah controls no monsters so he can Special Summon Speedroid Terrortop, adding Speedroid Taketomborg and Special Summoning it. Brennan then uses his Bystial Baldrake to banish his Maliss White Rabbit from the Graveyard, which also gets Special Summoned, as well as setting Maliss <C> MTP-07. Micah uses his two Speedroid monsters to Link Summon S:P Little Knight. He sets Phantom Knight’s Fog Blade and passes turn. In the End Phase, Brennan attempts to Special Summon Bystial Saronir and Micah promptly concedes.

Game 2

Micah has a hand of Fiendsmith Engraver, Imsety, Glory of Horus, King’s Sarcophagus, The Phantom Knights of Ragged Gloves and Bystial Druiswurm. Brennan has Bystial Saronir, Bystial Magnamhut, Bystial Baldrake, Maliss Dormouse and Maliss <C> GWC-06 .

Micah starts off by discarding Fiendsmith Engraver to add Fiendsmith’s Tract and then activating to add and discard Fabled Lurrie - which Special Summons itself, and then Link Summons Fiendsmith’s Requiem. He Tributes Reqiuem to Special Summon Lacrima the Crimson Tears from his Deck, sending a Fiendsmith in Paradise. Fiendsmith’s Requiem equips itself to Lacrima the Crimson Tears and then Lacrima the Crimson Tears is sent to the Graveyard to Special Summon Necroquip Princess. Micah follows up by discarding Imsety, Glory of Horus and The Phantom Knights of Ragged Gloves to add King’s Sarcophagus from Deck to hand and draw a card while Necroquip Princess gives another draw. Micah uses Fiendsmith Engraver in Graveyard to return Fabled Lurrie to the Deck, but Brennan stops Fiendsmith Engraver with his Bystial Magnamhut. Micah then activates King’s Sarcophagus and Special Summons Imsety, Glory of Horus from the Graveyard. He activates the sarcophagus effect, sending an Imsety, Glory of Horus from his hand and Hapi, Guidance of Horus from his Deck to the Graveyard. He subsequently Special Summons the Hapi, Guidance of Horus and uses Hapi, Guidance of Horus and Imsety, Glory of Horus to Xyz Summon The Zombie Vampire, which sends the top 4 cards to the Graveyard as well as Special Summoning back a Fiendsmith Engraver that was just sent. Brennan then uses his Bystial Druiswurm and Bystial Baldrake each banishing a The Phantom Knights of Ancient Cloak that was sent off The Zombie Vampire. Micah then banishes his Fiendsmith in Paradise from Graveyard to send another Fiendsmith Engraver from his Deck to the Graveyard. Micah uses The Zombie Vampire and Fiendsmith Engraver to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Sequence. Brennan uses his Bystial Baldrake, tributing his Bystial Druiswurm to banish the Fiendsmith’s Sequence and then using Bystial Druiswurm to destroy the Necroquip Princess. Micah realised his oversight, but quickly picks himself back together. He proceeds to use King’s Sarcophagus again, sending Fiendsmith’s Tract from his hand and Duamutef, Blessing of Horus from his Deck to the Graveyard, and Special Summons back the Duamutef, Blessing of Horus. Micah ends his turn and Brennan adds Bystial Saronir from Deck to hand from the effect of his Bystial Magnumhut, and then Special Summons it - banishing Lacrima the Crimson Tears from Micah’s Graveyard.

Brennan draws an Artifact Lancea. He sets Maliss <C> GWC-06 and Normal Summons Maliss Dormouse, banishing Maliss White Rabbit, which special summons itself and then sets Maliss <C> MTP-07 . Brennan uses Maliss Dormouse, Maliss White Rabbit and Bystial Magnamhut to Link Summon Maliss <Q> Hearts Crypter. In the Battle Phase, Bystial Baldrake declares an attack - but King’s Sarcophagus is able to send it the Graveyard. Brennan proceeds to attack with Bystial Saronir over the Duamutef, Blessing of Horus and then with Maliss <Q> Hearts Crypter. He follows up with Maliss <C> GWC-06, tributing Maliss <Q> Hearts Crypter to Special Summon Maliss White Rabbit and Maliss <Q> Hearts Crypter Special Summons itself (but with double its ATK points). On attack declaration, Micah Special Summons Bystial Druiswurm, but Brennan has Maliss <C> MTP-07 to tribute his Maliss White Rabbit to add Maliss Dormouse and banish Bystial Druiswurm. The attack goes through, and with his suite of Bystial monsters, Brennan is able to win this match reasonably quick.

Both players are still in the tournament despite the outcome of the match, so we wish them both luck going into the final round of today.
