YCS Sydney 2025 Coverage - Round 6 Feature

We’re over halfway through the Swiss rounds now. There were rumbles of a very interesting variant of the Ryzeal Deck, and we had the opportunity to see how it plays out. On the one side, we have Claire Davis from Melbourne - who plays at Gameology Brunswick, facing Zach Lloyd from country town Dubbo, who has a local store of Total Table Top.

Game 1

Claire opens a hand of 2 Ext Ryzeal, Bonfire, Droll & Lock Bird and Infinite Impermanence. Zach has a hand of Bonfire, Triple Tactics Talents, Ice Ryzeal, Ext Ryzeal and Node Ryzeal.

Claire will be starting the match with Bonfire, adding Ice Ryzeal which is Normal Summoned, and using its effect to Special Summon Ext Ryzeal from Deck - which adds Sword Ryzeal to her hand. Ext Ryzeal and Ice Ryzeal are used to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Duo Drive, detaching both materials to add Ryzeal Cross and Ryzeal Plugin from Deck to hand. Claire activates Ryzeal Cross and then Special Summons Ext Ryzeal, sending Eclipse Twins from her Extra Deck to the Graveyard. She then Special Summons from hand Sword Ryzeal, which adds an Ice Ryzeal, which is Special Summoned by sending Ryzeal Duo Drive to the Graveyard. The Ice Ryzeal, Sword Ryzeal and Ext Ryzeal are used to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Detonator which on summon places the Eclipse Twins under it as material. Ryzeal Cross is used to return Ice Ryzeal and Ext Ryzeal to draw a card. Claire sets two Spells/Traps and ends her turn.

Zach draws Fiendsmith in Paradise for turn. He starts with a Special Summon of Ext Ryzeal, sending Mereologic Aggregator from his Extra Deck to the Graveyard, and using its effect to target Claire’s Ryzeal Detonator - but she decides to use her Ryzeal Detonator to destroy itself. Zach’s Ext Ryzeal will add Sword Ryzeal from Deck, while the Eclipse Twins that was just sent to the Graveyard for Claire will Special Summon back the Ryzeal Detonator with Ryzeal Duo Drive attached under as material, as well as a an Ext Ryzeal. Zach Special Summons Sword Ryzeal. Claire now uses Ryzeal Detonator, detaching her Ext Ryzeal to destroy Zach’s Ext Ryzeal. The Sword Ryzeal resolves, adding Ice Ryzeal, and Claire now uses Droll & Lock Bird. Zach Normal Summons Ice Ryzeal and Claire uses Ryzeal Detonator to destroy Ice Ryzeal and as chain link 3 uses her set Infinite Impermanence to negate the Ice Ryzeal’s effect. After this, Claire activates her set Ryzeal Plugin to Special Summon Ryzeal Duo Drive from her Graveyard, but also attach an Ice Ryzeal from her Deck to her Ryzeal Detonator. The Ryzeal Duo Drive also attaches an Ext Ryzeal from the Graveyard. Zach attempts to use Triple Tactics Talents to take Claire’s Ryzeal Detonator, but Claire this time uses the Ryzeal Detonator to destroy her own Ryzeal Duo Drive. Zach Special Summons Ice Ryzeal by sending the Ryzeal Detonator to the Graveyard, and then uses Ice Ryzeal and Sword Ryzeal to make his own Ryzeal Detonator - attaching Mereologic Aggregator from the Graveyard as material. Zach is able to land a direct attack with Ryzeal Detonator before ending his turn.

Claire draws and summons her own Ext Ryzeal, sending Mereologic Aggregator. Zach uses Ryzeal Detonator, detaching Ice Ryzeal to destroy Claire’s Ryzeal Cross. Ext Ryzeal adds Sword Ryzeal from the Deck and the Mereologic Aggregator negates Ryzeal Detonator. Claire Special Summons Sword Ryzeal and adds Ice Ryzeal from Deck. Sword Ryzeal and Ext Ryzeal are used to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Detonator, attaching Eclipse Twins from the Graveyard as material. Claire uses her Ryzeal Detonator to attack the opposing Ryzeal Detonator, but as her one is not negated, she is able to detach to protect from destruction. Claire Normal Summons Ice Ryzeal and uses it to Special Summon Sword Ryzeal, using them both to Xyz Summon Number 41: Bagooska the Terribly Tired Tapir .

Zach has a think and then decides to pack up his cards to go to Game 2.

Game 2

Zach’s opening hand in game 2 is Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit, Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, Effect Veiler, Bystial Magnamhut and Ext Ryzeal.

Claire has a hand of 2 Bonfire, Dark Ruler No More, Harpie’s Feather Duster and Triple Tactics Thrust.

Zach starts with a Special Summon of Ext Ryzeal, sending Eclipse Twins from the Extra Deck and adding Sword Ryzeal from Deck. He Special Summons the Sword Ryzeal, adding an Ice Ryeal. Sword Ryzeal and Ext Ryzeal are then used to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Duo Drive, and both are detached to add Node Ryzeal and Ryzeal Cross. He activates Ryzeal Cross and then Normal Summons Ice Ryzeal to Special Summon Ext Ryzeal, and then using both to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Detonator and attaching Eclipse Twins as material. Ryzeal Cross is used to place Sword Ryzeal and Ext Ryzeal to the bottom of the Deck and Zach draws Bystial Baldrake. Claire draws Ext Ryzeal and opens with Dark Ruler No More. She proceeds to use Bonfire to add Ice Ryzeal and Normal Summons it. Its effect is negated by Ryzeal Cross, detaching Ext Ryzeal from Ryzeal Detonator. Clare then Special Summons Ext Ryzeal, sending Eclipse Twins, and adds Node Ryzeal from Deck. Zach Special Summons Bystial Baldrake by banishing Claire’s Eclipse Twins. Claire attempts to activate Triple Tactics Thrust, but Zach has Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Claire uses Ice Ryzeal and Ext Ryzeal to Xyz Summon Evilswarm Exciton Knight. On Summon, Zach uses Bystial Baldrake to tribute his Ryzeal Detonator, while Claire uses Evilswarm Exciton Knight to destroy all other cards on the field. As Zach goes to resolve his Eclipse Twins; Claire concedes.

Game 3

Claire will start with a hand of Node Ryzeal, Ice Ryzeal, Solemn Judgment, Primite Lordly Lode and Primite Dragon Ether Beryl

Zach will have to fight back with Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, Bystial Druiswurm, Bonfire, Ultimate Slayer, Triple Tactics Talents and Lacrima the Crimson Tears.

Claire starts off with Primite Dragon Ether Beryl, setting Primite Lordly Lode and activating it to add Primite Drillbeam - but discards it to Special Summon Ice Ryzeal. As Claire controls Primite Dragon Ether Beryl, she can set Primite Drillbeam from the Graveyard, which effectively made that Ice Ryzeal have no real cost. Ice Ryzeal and Primite Dragon Ether Beryl are used to Xyz Summon Duo Drive whose effect is stopped by Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Claire then uses Primite Lordly Lode to Special Summon Harpie Lady from her Deck. Yes; you read that right. She also sets a card and ends her turn.

Zach starts off with Bonfire to add Ext Ryzeal. He goes to Normal Summon Lacrima the Crimson Tears, but Claire uses Primite Drillbeam to negate and banish Lacrima the Crimson Tears. Both players exclaim how neither of them saw their opponent’s ancillary Deck engines until Game 3. Zach proceeds to Special Summon Ext Ryzeal sending Eclipse Twins from the Extra Deck. Claire uses Solemn Judgment to negate the summon. Zach activates Ultimate Slayer, sending Abyss Dweller from his Extra Deck to return Claire’s Ryzeal Duo Drive back to the Extra Deck. He then banishes Ext Ryzeal from Claire’s Graveyard to Special Summon Bystial Druiswurm and attack over Harpie Lady before ending his turn.

Claire draws another Primite Lordly Lode and in the Standby Phase adds Primite Dragon Ether Beryl back to hand from the Graveyard. Claire activates Primite Lordly Lode, adding another Primite Dragon Ether Beryl to hand. She Normal Summons Primite Dragon Ether Beryl and sets Primite Drillbeam from the Graveyard, as well as using Primite Lordly Lode to Special Summon back the Harpie Lady. She uses Harpie Lady and Primite Dragon Ether Beryl to Xyz Summon Number 41: Bagooska the Terribly Tired Tapir.

Zach draws and Summons Sword Ryzeal, which switches to defense due to Number 41: Bagooska the Terribly Tired Tapir and its effect negated. Claire uses Primite Drillbeam to banish the Bystial Druiswurm.

Claire draws Triple Tactics Thrust. Claire activates Primite Lordly Lode, adding another Primite Dragon Ether Beryl to hand, which gets Normal Summoned - and Primite Drillbeam sets itself from the Graveyard. Primite Lordly Lode gain Special Summons Harpie Lady from the Graveyard that was detached from Number 41: Bagooska the Terribly Tired Tapir in the Standby Phase.

Zach draws Mulcharmy Purulia and summons it. Mulcharmy Purulia and Sword Ryzeal are used to Link Summon Moon of the Closed Heaven. Claire uses Primite Drillbeam to banish. Zach concedes.Claire moves on to be 6-0 with her Primite Ryzeal strategy, which evidently has a strong amount of recursion. She disclosed that she played Harpie Lady to synergise with Triple Tactics Thrust to set Harpie’s Feather Storm. Unfortunately wasn’t able to show it in action during this match, but it has helped her get this far during the day. Best of luck to both players
