YCS Sydney 2025 Coverage - Round 3 Feature

Going into Round 3, we have 2 Duelists who have made it through their first two rounds undefeated. We have Fox Chudleigh, who won the Oceanic Championship last year in Auckland, NZ and represented Australia at the World Championships in Seattle, Washington. He, like Luke from Round 1, is from Canberra - playing at Jolt Games. His opponent is Jonah Mani who’s from Melbourne and frequents Good Games Greensborough.

Game 1

Fox opens a hand of Maliss
Dormouse, Maliss
White Rabbit, Bystial Druiswurm, Dominus Impulse and Metaltronus. Jonah has Effect Veiler, Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, Nibiru the Primal Being, Primite Dragon Ether Beryl and Wishes for Eyes of Blue.

Fox opts to go first and commences the match with a Maliss
Dormouse - but that is stopped by Effect Veiler. Similar to the first round feature, Fox Link Summons Link Decoder. He Special Summons his Bystial Druiswurm banishing his Maliss
Dormouse from the Graveyard. Fox Special Summons back the Mouse and links his Bystial Druiswurm, Maliss
Dormouse and Link Decoder into Maliss Red Ransom. The Link Decoder Special Summons itself, while Maliss Red Ransom adds Maliss In Underground from Fox’s Deck to hand. Fox proceeds to use Link Decoder and Maliss Maliss Red Ransom to Link Summon S:P Little Knight, banishing the Maliss Red Ransom used as material, which is then Special Summoned - and banishes Maliss
Chessy Cat from the Deck, which in turn Special Summons itself. At resolution, Jonah uses Nibiru the Primal Being, but Fox uses S:P Little Knight to banish itself and Maliss Red Ransom. Nibiru the Primal Being tributes just the Maliss
Dormouse to Special Summon itself and a Primal Being Token to Fox’s field. Fox activates Maliss in Underground to banish Maliss
White Rabbit, which Special Summons itself and sets Maliss <C> GWC-06. He activates his Metaltronus to Special Summon his own Nibiru the Primal Being from his Deck and uses Nibiru the Primal Being, the Primal Being Token and the Maliss
White Rabbit to Link Summon Maliss White Binder - banishing Jonah’s Effect Veiler from the Graveyard. Maliss White Binder is also able to Set MALISS <C> TB-11 from his Deck, but immediately activates it, banishing his Maliss White Binder to Special Summon Maliss
White Rabbit from Deck. Maliss White Binder attempts to Special Summon itself, but Jonah has Ash Blossom & Joyous Spirit. Fox sets 1 card and ends his turn with S:P Little Knight and Maliss Red Ransom returning to his field.

Jonah draws Maiden of White. He Normal Summons Primite Dragon Ether Beryl to set Primite Lordly Lode. Fox activates his set Maliss <C> GWC-06 to Special Summon back Maliss White Binder from the Graveyard, using her effect to banish Maliss
White Rabbit and Hieratic Seal of the Heavenly Spheres from Fox’s Graveyard. The Maliss
White Rabbit Special Summons itself and sets Maliss <C> MTP-07. Jonah activates Primite Lordly Lode and in response, Fox activates Maliss <C> MTP-07 - banishing his Maliss White Binder to add Maliss
Dormouse and also banishing the Primite Lordly Lode. Maliss White Binder then Special Summons itself back, drawing a Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit. Jonah uses Primite Dragon Ether Beryl to Link Summon Spirit with Eyes of Blue to add Mausoleum of White, activating it and targeting his Nibiru the Primal Being. That draw was clutch for Fox, as he is able to stop this with the Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit. Jonah next uses Wishes for Eyes of Blue, discarding Maiden of White to add a second copy of Maiden of White and Roar of the Blue-Eyed Dragons. Jonah discards Maiden of White to place True Light from his Deck into his Spell/Trap Zone. Jonah proceeds to activate Roar of the Blue-Eyed Dragons, but Fox has Dominus Impulse. With no plays left, Jonah concedes Game 1.

During siding, Jonah says in jest: “Watch me open 2 Blue-Eyes White Dragon”. Some people like to say, be careful what you wish for!

Game 2

Jonah indeed has a hand of 2 Primite Dragon Ether Beryl, 2 Blue-Eyes White Dragon and a Called By the Grave. Fox will play with a Harpie’s Feather Duster, Maliss <C> GWC-06, Maliss in Underground, Mulcharmy Fuwalos and Maliss
Chessy Cat.

Jonah starts his turn with Primite Dragon Ether Beryl, to set Primite Lordly Lode. At resolution, Fox activates Mulcharmy Fuwalos. Jonah activates Primite Lordly Lode, adding a Primite Drillbeam. He then uses Primite Lordly Lode to summon Blue-Eyes White Dragon from hand. He uses Blue-Eyes White Dragon and Primite Dragon Ether Beryl to Link Summon Hieratic Seal of the Heavenly Spheres. He sets Called by the Grave and Primite Drillbeam and ends his turn. In the End Phase, Fox Special Summons the Bystial Baldrake he drew off his Mulcharmy Fuwalos, banishing Blue-Eyes White Dragon from Jonah’s Graveyard.

Fox draws another Mulcharmy Fuwalos for turn. He starts immediately with Harpie’s Feather Duster, forcing Jonah to activate his set Primite Drillbeam - revealing the second Blue-Eyes White Dragon from his hand to negate and banish the duster. He enters the Battle Phase and attacks Hieratic Seal of the Heavenly Spheres with Bystial Baldrake, prompting Jonah to use its effect: tributing itself to Special Summon Primite Dragon Ether Beryl from Deck and returning Primite Lordly Lode to hand. Bystial Baldrake redirects its attack into the Primite Dragon Ether Beryl. In Main Phase 2, Fox activates Maliss in Underground, banishing Maliss
Dormouse to Special Summon itself. He sets Maliss <C> GWC-06 and then uses Maliss
Dormouse to banish Maliss
White Rabbit, Special Summoning itself and then setting TB11. Maliss
Dormouse is used to Link Summon Link Decoder. Maliss
White Rabbit, Link Decoder and Bystial Baldrake are used to Link Summon Maliss White Binder, which banishes the 2 Primite Dragon Ether Beryl and Primite Drillbeam from Jonah’s Graveyard. Link Decoder also returns to the field. Link Decoder and Maliss White Binder are used to Link Summon Accesscode Talker. Jonah uses the open game state to activate Called By the Grave to banish Fox’s Maliss White Binder from the Graveyard. Fox Normal Summons Maliss
Chessy Cat and activates MALISS <C> TB-11 to banish the cat to Special Summon a Maliss
White Rabbit. The Maliss
Chessy Cat Special Summons itself. Accesscode Talker and Maliss
White Rabbit are used to Link Summon Splash Mage, which brings back the rabbit and both are used to Link Summon Maliss Red Ransom, adding a Maliss in Underground from Deck. Maliss
Chessy Cat is used to banish the Maliss in Underground, drawing 2 cards – Bystial Baldrake and Dominus Impulse. Fox uses Maliss
Chessy Cat and Maliss Red Ransom to Link Summon Firewall Dragon, before setting a card and ending his turn.

Jonah draws Maiden of White for turn. Fox activates Maliss <C> GWC-06 to Special Summon back his banished Maliss White Binder, but it’s unable to use its effect to banish due to the Called by the Grave from last turn. Jonah activates Maiden of White, discarding it to place True Light and using its effect to set Wishes for Eyes of Blue and immediately activates it, discarding Primite Lordly Lode to add Sage with Eyes of Blue and Roar of the Blue-Eyed Dragons. He Normal Summons Sage with Eyes of Blue using its effect to add Effect Veiler from hand. Sage with Eyes of Blue is used to Link Summon Spirit with Eyes of Blue to add Mausoleum of White, which is activated, discarding a Blue-Eyes White Dragon from hand. Fox now Special Summons Bystial Baldrake, banishing Jonah’s second Blue-Eyes White Dragon. Jonah continues with Roar of the Blue-Eyed Dragons, but Fox activates Dominus Impulse to negate it. Again with nothing left to play, Jonah concedes.

Hopefully Jonah gets his bad luck out of the way with that Game 2 hand and is able to pull through for the rest of the tournament; but for now Fox moves on with a 3-0 score.
