YCS Sydney 2025 Coverage - Round 1 Feature

As is tradition, we like to bring our defending champion back for the round 1 feature. We have Jason Huang: winner of YCS Sydney 2024 from Melbourne, who plays at GrandJ Games. He is facing off against Luke Jirman from Australia’s capital city Canberra, who trained at the local store of Jolt Games.

Game 1

Jason opens with a hand of Maliss <C> MTP-07, 2 copies of Maliss
White Rabbit, Metaltronus and Bystial Druiswurm.

Luke on the other hand opens with 2 copies of Kashtira Unicorn, Effect Veiler, Droll & Lock Bird and a Fiendsmith Engraver.

Jason wins the dice roll and opts to go first. He starts with a Normal Summon of Maliss
White Rabbit, to which Luke responds with Effect Veiler. Jason Link Summons Link Decoder. He Special Summons his Bystial Druiswurm, banishing his Maliss
White Rabbit from the Graveyard. All the Main Deck Maliss monsters have an effect whereby if they are banished, the owner can pay 300LP to Special Summon themselves - while the Extra Deck ones pay 900LP, which we will see a lot of throughout the weekend. Jason Special Summons back the Rabbit and links his Bystial Druiswurm, Maliss
White Rabbit and Link Decoder into Maliss Red Ransom. The Link Decoder Special Summons itself, while Maliss Red Ransom adds Maliss In Underground from Jason’s Deck to hand. On resolution; Luke will use his Droll & Lock Bird, preventing either player from adding cards from their Deck to their hand for the remainder of the turn. Jason proceeds to use Link Decoder and Maliss Red Ransom to Link Summon S:P Little Knight banishing the Maliss Red Ransom used as material which is then Special Summoned, and banishes Maliss
Dormouse from the Deck - which in turn Special Summons itself. Maliss
Dormouse then banishes Maliss
Chessy Cat which Special Summons itself. S:P Little Knight and Maliss
Chessy Cat are used to Link Summon Maliss White Binder, which is used to set Maliss <C> GWC-06 from the Deck. Jason then uses Maliss White Binder , Maliss Red Ransom and Maliss
Dormouse to Link Summon Maliss Hearts Crypter before setting 2 cards and ending his turn.

Luke draws Lacrima. He starts off by Special Summoning Kashtira Unicorn. He discards Fiendsmith Engraver to add Fiendsmith’s Tract from his Deck. Jason now uses his set Maliss <C> GWC-06 to Special Summon back Maliss White Binder using it’s trigger effect to banish his Red Ransom, Maliss
Dormouse and Luke’s Fiendsmith Engraver from the Graveyard. Several effects are activated and after it all; Maliss Red Ransom Special Summoned itself, banishing a Maliss
Chessy Cat from the Deck, Jason’s Kashtira Unicorn banished Jason’s Accesscode Talker from the Extra Deck; Maliss Red Ransom added a Maliss in Underground. Luke uses Kashtira Unicorn to add Kashtira Birth and activates it. Jason uses Maliss <C> MTP-07 to add Maliss
Dormouse from Deck to hand and then banish the Kashtira Birth. Luke Normal Summons Lacrima the Crimson Tears, using her effect to send a Fiendsmith Engraver from the Deck to the Graveyard. Jason uses Hearts Crypter’s effect to shuffle back the previously banished Maliss
Chessy Cat and then banish the Lacrima. In the Battle Phase, Luke uses Kashtira Unicorn to attack over Maliss White Binder. In Main Phase 2, Luke Xyz Summons Super Starslayer TY-PHON - Sky Crisis with Kashtira Unicorn, but before he can do anything; Jason activates his set Metaltronus to Special Summon his own Super Starslayer TY-PHON - Sky Crisis and then banishes both face down.

Upon Jason drawing and entering Battle Phase, Luke concedes Game 1.

Jason on the other hand has Mulcharmy Fuwalos, 2 Book of Eclipse, Dimensional Shifter and a Maliss in Underground.

Luke again starts his turn with Kashtira Unicorn, adding Kashtira Birth. He Normal Summons Lacrima the Crimson Tears using its effect to send Fiendsmith Engraver from the Deck to the Graveyard. Lacrima the Crimson Tears was used to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Requiem, which was tributed to activate its effect - but Jason responds by discarding Mulcharmy Fuwalos, which is stopped by Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. A Fiendsmith Engraver is Special Summoned from the Deck and is soon joined by the one that was in his Graveyard, by returning the Fiendsmith’s Requiem from the Graveyard to the Extra Deck. Luke Link Summons Fiendsmith’s Sequence using the 2 Fiendsmith Engravers. He uses Fiendsmith’s Sequence’s effect to shuffle back 2 Fiendsmith Engraver and Lacrima the Crimson Tears to Fusion Summon Fiendsmith’s Desirae, before using Sequence and Desirae to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Agnumday. He uses Fiendsmith’s Agnumday to summon back Fiendsmith’s Desirae, which is then equipped with both Fiendsmith’s Agnumday and Fiendsmith’s Sequence. Luke activates Kashtira Birth and ends his turn.

Jason starts with a Book of Eclipse, which is negated by Desirae. Fortunately, Jason had a second Book of Eclipse to set all of Luke’s monsters. Jason follows up with Maliss in Underground, banishing Maliss
Dormouse which Special Summons itself. Maliss
Dormouse banishes Maliss
White Rabbit from the Deck, which Special Summons itself and sets Maliss <C> MTP-07 from the Deck. The Mouse and the Rabbit are used to Link Summon Splash Mage, which brings back the Mouse and uses both to Link Summon Maliss White Binder . Maliss White Binder banishes Fiendsmith’s Agnumday and Maliss
Dormouse. He then activates his set Maliss <C> MTP-07, banishing Maliss White Binder and adds Maliss
Chessy Cat . Maliss
Dormouse is Special Summoned whilst also drawing a card. Jason Normal Summons Maliss
Chessy Cat , sets then activates Maliss <C> GWC-06 to banish Maliss
Chessy Cat to summon Maliss
White Rabbit and also Special Summon back the Cat. Maliss White Binder sets the Maliss <C> GWC-06 from the Graveyard. Maliss
Chessy Cat is used to Link Summon Link Decoder. Link Decoder, Maliss
White Rabbit and Maliss White Binder to Link Summon Maliss Hearts Crypter with the Decoder Special Summoning itself back. Maliss Hearts Crypter and Link Decoder are then used to Link Summon Accesscode Talker, which gains 3000 ATK. Jason uses Accesscode Talker to banish his Splash Mage and Maliss Hearts Crypter to destroy Luke’s Kashitra Unicorn and Kashtira Birth. Maliss Hearts Crypter Special Summons itself. In the Battle Phase, Jason uses Maliss Hearts Crypter to banish the set Fiendsmith’s Desirae - and having more than 8000 damage on the Field, he is able to take the match 2-0.

Luke played well but Jason shows he is ready to defend his title.
