YCS Sydney 2025 Coverage - Finals

896 players entered this tournament - but only two remain. Both players have had an outstanding performance today, and both should be proud of where they are. Freddy, who remains undefeated throughout the entire tournament, and Andrew Udal who has entered his first-ever YCS, making it all the way to the Finals. It’s these war stories that will be told for years to come, that bring life into the game and inspire upcoming players to have a competitive spirit.

We have Freddy Cammel from Melbourne, against Andrew Udal from Bundaberg Queensland. They’re playing Ryzeal and Maliss respectively, but if you asked anyone in the room, that would be a reasonable match up for the finals. Let’s begin!

Game 1

Freddy has a hand of Ryzeal Cross, Called by the Grave, Bonfire, Ext Ryzeal and Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring.

Andrew will play with Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, Infinite Impermanence, Meltatronus, Bystial Baldrake and Maliss Dormouse.

Andrew asks if he can win a die roll, as he hasn’t won one in a while - but Freddy in a friendly manner retorts with “I’d rather you not” - which works out as Freddy wins the die roll.

Freddy starts the match off with Ext Ryzeal, sending Ryzeal Duo Drive to add Sword Ryzeal, which gets Special Summoned and adds Ice Ryzeal. Freddy then activates Ryzeal Cross and uses Ext Ryzeal and Sword Ryzeal to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Duo Drive, attaching the in-Graveyard Ryzeal Duo Drive. Freddy attempts to use Ryzeal Duo Drive’s effect to add a card to hand, but Andrew stops it with Infinite Impermanence. Freddy proceeds to Normal Summon Ice Ryzeal, which Special Summons Sword Ryzeal from Deck. Ice Ryzeal and Sword Ryzeal are used to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Detonator. Freddy sets Called By The Grave and ends his turn.Andrew draws a second copy of Metaltronus. He activates one, targeting Ryzeal Detonator, but Freddy has Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Andrew sets his other Metaltronus and Normal Summons Maliss Dormouse, but in response to its effect, Freddy destroys it with Ryzeal Detonator. Maliss Dormouse will banish Maliss White Rabbit, but its effect is negated by Ryzeal Cross, detaching a material from Ryzeal Duo Drive. Andrew attempts to banish his Maliss Dormouse to Special Summon his Bystial Baldrake, but Freddy banishes it first with Called By The Grave. With no playable cards left; Andrew concedes the first game.

Game 2

In Game 2, Andrew opens with Maliss <C> GWC-06, Maliss <C> MTP-07, Maliss White Rabbit and 2 copies of Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Freddy will be playing second with Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, Nibiru the Primal Being, Called by the Grave, Sword Ryzeal and Pot of Prosperity.

Andrew starts with a set Spell/Trap and then Normal Summons Maliss White Rabbit, which sets Maliss <C> TB-11 from his Deck; activating and banishing the Maliss White Rabbit, but is stopped by Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. The Maliss White Rabbit Special Summons itself and is used to Link Summon Link Decoder. Andrew sets another Spell/Trap and ends his turn.

Freddy draws and starts his turn with Sword Ryzeal, but its effect is stopped by Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Freddy activates Pot of Prosperity, banishing 6 Extra Deck Monsters to reveal 2 Artifact Lancea, Infinite Impermanence, Nibiru the Primal Being, Ryzeal Plugin and Sword Ryzeal. He takes the Sword Ryzeal and Special Summons it. He uses his two Sword Ryzeal to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Detonator, attaching his Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring from his Graveyard as Xyz Material. He attacks over Link Decoder and sets a Spell/Trap before ending his turn. In the End Phase, Andrew activates a set Maliss <C> MTP-07 and Freddy responds by using his Ryzeal Detonator to target Andrew’s other set Spell/Trap - which he activates, being the Maliss <C> GWC-06. Andrew Special Summons Maliss White Rabbit and Maliss <C> MTP-07 will add Maliss Dormouse.

Andrew draws and Normal Summons Maliss Dormouse. Maliss Dormouse and Maliss White Rabbit are used to Link Summon Haggard Lizardose, which has an effect allowing it to banish his Maliss Dormouse. In response, Freddy uses Ryzeal Detonator to destroy Haggard Lizardose. Maliss Dormouse is Special Summoned, but its effect is stopped by an Effect Veiler from Freddy.

Freddy draws and activates Ryzeal Cross, using its effect to put two Sword Ryzeal to the bottom of his Deck and draws a card. He attacks directly with his Ryzeal Detonator

Andrew draws Maliss in Underground. He starts with a Normal Summon Maliss Dormouse, but when he activates its effect, Freddy uses Called by the Grave to banish a Maliss Dormouse that’s already in the Graveyard. Andrew activates Maliss in Underground, banishing Maliss White Rabbit from the Deck and then Special Summoning it. Maliss Dormouse and Maliss White Rabbit are used to Link Summon Splash Mage, which Special Summons back the Maliss Dormouse. Splash Mage and Maliss Dormouse are used to Link Summon Maliss <Q> White Binder. Freddy at this point uses his Nibiru the Primal Being, summoning a Primal Being Token for Andrew after all monsters on the field are tributed.

Freddy draws and attacks over the token with Nibiru the Primal Being. He sets a Spell/Trap and passes back.

Andrew draws and Special Summons Bystial Druiswurm, banishing his Maliss <Q> White Binder. He attempts to use Maliss <Q> White Binder’s effect to Special Summon itself, but as it also comes with an effect to draw, Freddy is able to stop it with Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring.

Freddy draws and attacks over Bystial Druiswurm with Nibiru the Primal Being, and then the Nibiru the Primal Being is destroyed by Bystial Druiswurm effect.

Andrew draws Maliss Chessy Cat, which he summons and attacks with directly.

Freddy draws and ends his turn with no play.

Andrew draws Bystial Baldrake and Special Summons it, banishing Maliss Dormouse, which Special Summons itself. Andrew uses Bystial Baldrake, Maliss Chessy Cat and Maliss Dormouse are used to Link Summon Maliss <Q> Hearts Crypter, attacking directly. Andrew attempts to use Maliss <Q> Hearts Crypter’s effect, but Freddy has an Infinite Impermanence.

Freddy draws and confirms that Andrew only has 1 card in hand. Andrew attempts again to use Maliss <Q> Hearts Crypter and is once again stopped by Infinite Impermance. Freddy Special Summons Ice Ryzeal by sending Ryzeal Cross to the Graveyard. He Normal Summons Mulcharmy Meowls. He uses Ice Ryzeal and Mulcharmy Meowls to Xyz Summon Light Dragon @Ignister, using its effect to destroy the Maliss <Q> Hearts Crypter and declares a direct attack. For a moment, Freddy thinks he had won, but remembered the Light Dragon @Ignister only has 2300 ATK instead of 2500, while Andrew was on 2400 Life Points. However, for a Deck like Maliss which requires paying Life Points for their effects, they’re in a tough position to come back from.

Andrew draws a card and extends the handshake.
