World Qualifying Points - Frequently Asked Questions
WQP are a way to earn an invite to the Yu‑Gi‑Oh! World Championship 2023. Duelists who earn World Championship Qualifier (WCQ) invites throughout the course of the 2019-2020 Organized Play Season and 2022-2023 Organized Play Season and will also earn “WQP” which award additional invites to the Yu‑Gi‑Oh! World Championship 2023 through a WQP Play-off.
WQP invites will be awarded to a specific number of Duelists in different territories who have earned enough WQP in the 2019-2020 Season and 2022-2023 Season to compete in the WQP Play-off.
Top performing Duelists during the 2019-2020 Season and 2022-2023 Season will be invited to a Play-off on the Friday of the WCQ held in their territory, to earn an invite to the Yu‑Gi‑Oh! World Championship 2023. The WQP Play-off is a Swiss, Advanced Constructed tournament with a cut to a Top. The number of Duelists competing in the Play-off will depend on the number of Duelists in their territory. See the chart below for the breakdown.
The top WQP Duelists from the 2019-2020 Season will be eligible for the WQP Play-off at the 2023 WCQ. If any of the top WQP Duelists from the 2019-2020 Season are also top WQP Duelists in the 2022-2023 Season, those spots will pass down to the next eligible Duelist in attendance from the 2022-2023 Season, for the WQP Play-off.
Territory Number of Invites to the Play-off from 2019-2020 Season Number of Invites to the Play-off from the 2022-2023 Season Europe 16 16
Please note that each invite to the Play-off will be given to that number of eligible Duelists who are present at that respective WCQ.
Examples In Europe, the top 16 WQP Duelists from 2019-2020 Season and the top 16 WQP Duelists from the 2022-2023 Season that are present at the European World Championship Qualifier at the time of the WQP Play-off, will be eligible for the Play-off. This means that if one of the Top 16 ranked Duelists from 2022-2023 season is also one of the Top 16 ranked Duelists from the 2019-2020 Season, the Play-off spot will be awarded to the 17th ranked Duelist from 2022-2023 Season. Also, if one of the Top 16 Ranked Duelists from either Season are not present, the Play-off spot will be awarded to the 17th ranked Duelist from that particular Season, and so on.
The number of invites to the Yu‑Gi‑Oh! World Championship 2023 awarded to each territory are listed below.
Territory Invites to the World Championship Criteria Europe 3 The top three (3) Duelists from Europe in the WQP Play-offs.
Events in Oceania (Australia, New Zealand) do not count towards the WQP.
Yes! All participants in the Play-off will receive:
Participants who did not earn one of the invites to the World Championship via the Play-off can still play in the WCQ to earn an invite via the WCQ.
The winners of the Play-offs can also compete in the WCQ for additional prizing. If a World Qualifying Point Play-off winner participates in the WCQ and ranks high enough in the WCQ to earn an invite to the Yu‑Gi‑Oh! World Championship 2023, the invite will automatically pass down to the next eligible Duelist in the WCQ. The additional prizing for reaching one of the top spots is awarded to the Duelist who reached that spot.
You can earn WQP at any in person event that awards an invite to the World Championship Qualifier, such as Regional Qualifiers, OTS Championships, Nationals in Europe, and the Yu‑Gi‑Oh! Championship Series.
Remote Duel Yu‑Gi‑Oh! Championship Series do not award WQP.
WQP are awarded for in-person events for the 2022-2023 Organized Play season. In-person events that took place during the 2021-2022 Season do not award WQP.
The total number of invites awarded at an event will determine how many WQP can be earned. For example, at a Regional Qualifier that awards 32 WCQ invites, the Duelist who comes in 1st place will earn 32 points, the 2nd place Duelist will earn 31 points, and so on, down to the 32nd place Duelist who will earn 1 point.
In addition, every Duelist that makes the Top Cut at a YCS will also earn 32 WQP in addition to the WQP awarded to them after that event’s final standings.
For example, if a YCS awards 32 invites to the WCQ, World Qualifier Points will be earned as follows:
Rank* WQP Earned 1st 64 (32 pts for 1st place + 32 pts for Top Cut) 2nd 63 (31 + 32) 3rd 62 (30 + 32) 4th 61 (29 + 32) 5th 60 (28 + 32) 6th 59 (27 + 32) 7th 58 (26 + 32) 8th 57 (25 + 32)
*This would continue down to 32nd place, which would earn 33 WQP. The 32 WQP are awarded as a flat number of points to the Top Cut of the event.
If an event has Top64, this will continue awarding an additional 32 WQP, not 64.
Rank* WQP Earned 1st 96 (64 pts for 1st place + 32 pts for Top Cut) 2nd 95 (63 + 32) 3rd 94 (62 + 32) 4th 93 (61 + 32) 5th 92 (60 + 32) 6th 91 (59 + 32) 7th 90 (58 + 32) 8th 89 (57 + 32)
*This would continue down to 64th place, which would earn 65 WQP.
If you would like to know how many points you can earn at your event, substitute the number of invites for the total above, and follow the same pattern.
Yes. Any event which awards a WCQ invite will award WQP. OTS Championships award 4 invites to the WCQ so the 1st place of the OTS Championship will win 4 WQP and the 4th place will win 1 WQP.
KDE-E will update the WQP list periodically prior to the WCQ. Please check here to view the latest update.
Events will usually take some time to be uploaded into the system and the files processed, so if your point total does not reflect your up-to-the-moment Organized Play history, don’t panic. It will be updated!
The WQP total will usually be consistent with the WCQ Invite list. If you want to see which events have been processed, visit the WCQ invite list when it becomes available here.
Duelists that have NEURON on their smartphone will also receive a push notification when an update is available. This is not a personalised notification.
Please check the WCQ invite page, located here and follow the same instructions provided for questions about WCQ invites.
The WQP invites are split between the 2019-20 Season, and the 2022-23 Season.
The dates below are the last dates until the WQP were eligibile to be earned for that respective set of invites:
2019-2020 Season – 14 March 2020
2022-2023 Season – 18 June 2023
The WQP invite winner(s) for each territory will be determined after the Play-off for their territory has been completed.
Each World Championship competitor will be given a pre-determined amount of time to attain all necessary travel documents to attend the World Championship. If within this timeframe a competitor is unable to attend, then the invite will pass down. KDE-E will reach out and make arrangements with the next eligible Duelist.
If there is a tie amongst Duelists for an invitation to the WQP Play-off, the Duelist who attained the highest number of points at a single event will have precedence over the other.
Yes.
Duelists must be legal residents of the territory they wish to represent and provide valid proof of residency.
If a Duelist participates in one of the World Championship Qualifiers, then the Duelist will only be eligible to represent the territory where the WCQ was held.
Under extreme circumstances (Duelist changes residency as a result of school or family, etc.), a Duelist may request that their invite (and WQP) be transferred to the territory that they will have residency in during the WCQ. This transfer will have the following requirements:
1. The Duelist must provide proof of residency change.
2. Once the request is processed, a KDE Representative will contact you with the status of your request.

No, all WQP earned in the 2019-2020 Season can only be used towards earning an invite to play in the WQP Play-off at their respective WCQ. The top WQP Duelists for the 2019-2020 Season and the top WQP Duelists for the 2022-2023 Season will be calculated separately. The top Duelists for the 2019-2020 Season will be set in advance.
If a Duelist has reached Top 16 Play-off for either 2019-2020 or 2022-2023, the next eligible Duelist on the 2022-2023 leaderboard will be invited to play in the event.
Suspended Duelists will not lose their WQP, but their information will not be listed on the leaderboard if they are suspended from Organized Play. If a player is reinstated before the WCQ Play-off takes place, and they've earned enough points, they will be eligible to participate in the WCQ Play-off. However, Duelists that are currently suspended when the WQP Play-off occurs will not be allowed to participate. Any WQP earned would not carry over to the next Organized Play Season.
