Oceania WCQ 2026

Date:  14 August 2026

Welcome back to Oceania WCQ 2026

This year we have returned to Melbourne Victoria for the first time since 2017!!

On the Friday we had 115 players for the Genesys championship playing 8 rounds with 2 to go on the Sunday

On Saturday for the Constructed Event, we had 299 turn up all trying to place in the top 2 to represent Oceania for the World Championship Series to be held in Japan in September. Duelists have come from across the country and over from New Zealand having practiced a ton in the weeks leading up to it and are hungry for that invitation.

This is the second event under the new rules where only the top 8 players after 12 rounds of Swiss. It will be a challenging feat no doubt but some players dabbled into the Genesys event and if are doing well in one but not the other can opt to play the other on the Sunday. This is incredibly exciting for players with two major tournaments to show off their dueling capabilities and what a weekend it will be.

After 2 long days of Dueling we have finally crowned our 2 participants who will represent Oceania at the World Championship Series in Japan later this year.

From Sydney we have Jerry Zhang piloting his 60 card deck which was an amalgamation of powerful prominent archetypes from the lasts 2 years including Mitsurugi, Fiendsmith, Yummy and the newly released Light and Darkness Ritual.

From Melbourne we have Dillon Taylor playing his Artmage Power Patron deck. He attributes his success to winning 13 out of 15 die rolls and hopes he can carry his luck with his knowledge and skills to a placement at the world championships.

They played it out for the title of Oceanic Champion with Dillion winning game 1 after using his deck to amass a powerful field. Jerry brings it to a tie in game 2 using his powerfully synergistic monsters. In the third game Dillon was unable to open as well as he would like with a modest field protected by Solemn Judgment and Solemn Accusation however after using them both he was left on just a measly 1000 Life Points allowing Jerry to close out the game and take the match.

Jerry is our 2026 Oceanic Champion despite Dillon having the home ground advantage. We wish them both the best of luck and know they will do our region proud.

In the Battle for Bronze (and in the event that either of our finalists are unable to attend) we had Stephen Medhurst with his Kewl Tune deck defeat Frankie Lin’s Branded deck.

Over in the Genesys Championship we had Isaac Stott take out the tournament against Jake Lovett in a Blitzclique mirror match – in fact all of the players in the top 4 were piloting the deck which was widely considered the best deck for the tournament.

An interesting occurrence was Yury Milenkov who performed so well in Genesys on the Friday that he made the top 8 despite dropping out of the tournament opting to continue in the WCQ.

And that is a wrap for the Oceania WCQ 2026 and we will catch you next time!

Congratulations again to the following players who placed in the top cut and thanks to all the players who show up to these events making this all happen.
