Once every year, Duelists gather at both the European and Oceanic World Championship Qualifier events to compete not just for the coveted title of Champion – but also to determine who will represent their region at the most prestigious of all Yu‑Gi‑Oh! tournaments: the World Championship Series.
As we approach this year’s WCS in Tokyo, we also look ahead to the upcoming 2027 season – as we would like to give you notice of some changes to the European and Oceanic World Championship Qualification structure.
For the 2027 World Championship Season, starting with Chaos Origins OTS Championships, Regional Qualifiers, and OPEN events, there will be some adjustments to how qualifications will be earned.
Update: WCQ and WQP* earned at Regional Qualifiers and OPEN Events (*Europe Only):
Regional Qualifiers and OPEN Events:
Old invite structure: 1 invite per 8 participants (rounded up) – uncapped
New invite structure: 1 invite per 8 Duelists (rounded up) – capped at 64 invites*
*For European WCQ Regions, the amount of WQP awarded to the highest ranked Duelist will also be 64, with 63 points for second, 62 points for third, and so on forth.
Why are we making this change?
This change is focused towards the World Qualifying Points program. When reviewing how Duelists have earned World Qualifying points, we identified that some events falling under the 1 invite per 8 Duelist structure were outpacing events such as Yu‑Gi‑Oh! Championship Series events – despite having significantly less Duelists competing at the event.
OTS Championships remain unchanged.
National/State Championships and Yu‑Gi‑Oh! Championship Series remain unchanged.
Update: WQP – Best Finishes
The final change relates to the World Qualifying Points in Europe.
While previously you were able to earn points over an unlimited number of events, for the 2027 Season, only your top 12 finishes throughout the season will count toward your point total.
In the event that Duelists are tied, the highest point total earned at a single event will be used as a tie-breaker, followed by the second best finish. If all best 12 finishes are tied, events beyond the 12 best finishes will be used as a tie breaker. In the event all standings are equal, a play-off will take place at the 2027 World Championship Qualifier.
Why are we making this change?
This change is being made to make the World Qualification Point Playoff more accessible to Duelists, while placing an emphasis on rewarding consistent performances. Duelist may choose to continue improving on their results throughout the season, at the conclusion of which, the best 12 results will then be locked in.
So to sum up, here is how you will be able to earn an invite to the next year’s European or Oceanic World Championship Qualifier:

As we go into this new season, we will monitor the response of the community to these new rules and if needed, adjust accordingly for the following year.
