BASIC RULES
Time Travel is an alternate format for local tournaments that is offered by Official Tournament Stores (OTS) that is designed to encourage Duelists to enjoy the full history of the Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME (TCG). The format is primarily intended to be fun and casual, rather than being competitive, allowing Duelists different ways to enjoy participating in Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG tournaments.
Time Travel tournaments require the OTS to select a period in time to host the event. The Forbidden & Limited List and available card pool are then made to match that selected period. Time Travel uses current game mechanics and the most recent version of card text. The rule regarding drawing on the first turn and the Dueling Field will match the selected format.
Examples
The OTS selects Jan 30, 2015 as the time period for their Time Wizard event. The latest release allowed would be Structure Deck: HERO Strike and the Forbidden & Limited List used would be the October 2014 Forbidden & Limited List. The Duelist going first will not draw a card on the first turn and there are no Extra Monster Zones.
The OTS selects August 1, 2005 as the time period for their Time Wizard event. The latest release allowed would be Dark Beginnings 2 and the Forbidden & Limited List used would be the April 2005 Forbidden & Limited List. The Duelist going first will draw a card on the first turn and there are no Extra Monster Zones.
The OTS selects April 20, 2010 as the time period for their Time Wizard event. The latest release allowed would be Duelist Pack: Kaiba and the Forbidden & Limited List used would be the March 2010 Forbidden & Limited List. The Duelist going first will draw a card on the first turn and there are no Extra Monster Zones.
As with all local tournaments, each OTS determines the tournament entry and prizing. So please check with your OTS for these details. Each Duelist will receive Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG product prizing with a value equal to or greater than the entry fee.
ADDITIONAL RULES
Here are some additional rules and variations your OTS can use. If you have any questions about any possible variations on your OTS’ Time Wizard event, please reach out to your OTS.
- Time Travel events can use either the Advanced or Traditional Forbidden & Limited Card List from the selected time period.
- The latest legal set is used to determine which cards are eligible to be used in the tournament. However, Duelists do not need to use cards printed before the selected time period. Cards printed after the selected time period that were originally printed before the selected time period are allowed to be used in the tournament. If a card had received an errata after the selected time period, Duelists would play using the cards current card text which can be found on Yu-Gi-Oh! NEURON.
