BASIC RULES

Time Wizard is an alternate format for local tournaments that is offered by Official Tournament Stores (OTS) that is designed to encourage Duelists to enjoy the full history of the Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME (TCG). The format is primarily intended to be fun and casual, rather than being competitive, allowing Duelists different ways to enjoy participating in Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG tournaments.

Time Wizard tournaments require the OTS to select a period in time to host the event. The Forbidden & Limited List, available card pool, and game rules and mechanics are then made to match that selected period.

Examples

The OTS selects Jan 30, 2015 as the time period for their Time Wizard event. The latest release allowed would be Structure Deck: HERO Strike and the Forbidden & Limited List used would be the October 2014 Forbidden & Limited List. The tournament would use card rules and game mechanics from January 2015, so Pendulum Zones would be separate from other Spell & Trap Card Zones.
The OTS selects August 1, 2005 as the time period for their Time Wizard event. The latest release allowed would be Dark Beginnings 2 and the Forbidden & Limited List used would be the April 2005 Forbidden & Limited List. The tournament would use card rules and game mechanics from August 2005, so Chaos Emperor Dragon – Envoy of the End would use its original text instead of the updated text from 2018.
The OTS selects April 20, 2010 as the time period for their Time Wizard event. The latest release allowed would be Duelist Pack: Kaiba and the Forbidden & Limited List used would be the March 2010 Forbidden & Limited List. The tournament would use card rules and game mechanics from April 2010.
The OTS selects January 1, 2005 as the time period for their Time Wizard event. This means there are no Pendulum Zones on the field and the Extra Deck does not have a limit on the number of cards it can contain.
The OTS selects January 1, 2015 as the time period for their Time Wizard event. This mean there would be Pendulum Zones separate from the Spell and Trap Card Zones.

As with all local tournaments, each OTS determines the tournament entry and prizing. So please check with your OTS for these details. Each Duelist will receive Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG product prizing with a value equal to or greater than the entry fee.

ADDITIONAL RULES

Here are some additional rules and variations your OTS can use. If you have any questions about any possible variations on your OTS’ Time Wizard event, please reach out to your OTS.

  • Time Wizard events can use either the Advanced or Traditional Forbidden & Limited Card List from the selected time period.
  • The latest legal set is used to determine which cards are eligible to be used in the tournament. However, Duelists do not need to use cards printed before the selected time period. Cards printed after the selected time period that were originally printed before the selected time period are allowed to be used in the tournament. If a card had received updated text after the selected time period, Duelists would play the card using the text without the updated text.
