More than 850 players from all over France and 20 other countries travelled to the Espace Charenton, on the banks of the Seine last weekend, to compete in Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH’s first Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series (YCS) of 2011.
By the time Sluis began his final match against 15-year old Tudor Mitchell from Rennes, France, he had already shown his skill and the strength of his X-Sabers Deck over a total of 14 rounds spread out across the weekend.
Mitchell’s Chaos Plant deck proved similarly effective throughout the event, so, unsurprisingly, it was a tense and balanced final. In the end, Stephan used Mind Control to clear the path for his final attack with XX-Saber Darksoul, winning the match and becoming the YCS Paris champion.
Along with the title, Sluis takes home a prize package including three Ultra Rare YCS Prize Cards, an exclusive YCS gamemat, a netbook computer and paid travel and accommodation to this year’s European Championship in Spain. Mitchell won a 32 GB iPad and a set of Super Rare YCS Prize Cards.
Visitors not playing the championship had a variety of public events to choose from, offering prizes such as oversized Yu-Gi-Oh! cards, exclusive gamemats and others. Thomas Cavaliere won the YCS Trial on Sunday, and will get a paid trip to one of the next European YCS events to come later this year.
