The World Championship Qualifiers are reaching their climax with the World Championship Qualifier: European Championship 2010, run in Birmingham, UK, on July 17/18.


At stake are invitations to Worlds 2010 in Long Beach USA, promo cards, exclusive gamemats, trophies and many other cool items.
For those players did not qualify by to the main event,  Konami  offers many exciting activities during those two days, for example video screens, a feature match area and a wide selection of Public Events, ranging from casual to highly-competive events.

Who can participate in the European Championship?

The European Championships are open to the following players:

  • Players who earned a qualification at one of that country’s National Qualifier tournaments;
  • Top4 players from last year’s EC2009 (the Worlds 2009 participants).

Event Structure

  • The European Championship will be Advanced Constructed format.
  • On Saturday, there will be a number of Swiss-style rounds, dependant on the number of participants, as follows:

  • After those Swiss rounds, there will be a cut to the Top64 players, who will play another 6 rounds of Swiss on Sunday.
  • After those 6 rounds, there will be a second cut, to the Top8 players, who will then continue to play in single-elimination mode until a European Champion has been crowned.

 

Card Legality

For the European Championships, the following rules apply in addition to the general card legality rules:

  • Cards from Hidden Arsenal 2 ARE NOT LEGAL. Note that this rule applies only to the EC main event and the Dragon Duel public event. Hidden Arsenal 2 is legal in all other public events.
  • All TCG promotional cards released in any TCG market are legal. This also applies to cards only released in the US.

Prizes

Apart from the title and invitation to the World Championship, players will compete for many other cool prizes: The Top 4 finishers will receive travel and accommodations to the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG World Championship in Long Beach, California (USA), a trophy, a complete set of Gold Series 3 and Gold Series 2009, a complete set of Super Rare Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series Prize Cards, a trip to Disneyland® the day before the World Championship, a personalized hoodie sweatshirt, and electronic entertainment equipment (TBD).

In addition to those prizes, top finishers will receive the following:

  • 1st Place: An additional Dark End Dragon card.
  • 5th – 8th Place: Trophy and 24 packs of The Shining Darkness.
  • 9th – 16th Place: 24 packs of The Shining Darkness.
  • Top 32: Dark End Dragon card.
  • Top 64: Exclusive Top Cut Game Mat.

 

Additionally, all main event participants will receive a pack of World Championship Qualifier 2010 Card Sleeves* and a World Championship Qualifier 2010 Game Mat*.

Public Events

 

Dragon Duel

For those players did not qualify by to the main event,  Konami  offers many exciting activities during those two days, for example video screens, a feature match area and a wide selection of Public Events, ranging from casual to highly-competive events.
Amongst others there will be:

  • Duelist League – casual League play for young players
  • Sealed Deck events – similiar to Sneak Peeks
  • Win-a-mat – some fine and limited gamemats to win (e.g. WCQ mats)
  • 8-player-single elimination events
  • A related “King of 8-players” final on Sunday, revealing a special prize item
  • European Dragon Duel – for players born in 1997 and later; no qualification needed and cool prizes provided
  • Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series Trial – offering travel sponsoring and accomodation to / at an European YCS
  • One other highlight event on each day
  • Based on availability, a “Win-an-accomodation” event, offering accomodation in the staff hotel

Many of those public events will already feature the newest KDE tournament participation prize, Turbo Pack 3, before it will be available in local tournament stores around Europe.

With all those attractions, attending the European Championship will be a thrilling experience for everyone!
