National Championships

This is where the action is! Players from all over the country gather at this tournament to Duel for the title of “National Champion”, for a qualification to the European Championship and of course, for cool, exclusive prizes.

National Championships often attract several hundred players – the main event is often accompanied by open side events and other attractions*, so National Championships have something in stock for everyone. Don’t miss your chance to participate in this unique Yu-Gi-Oh! party!

How to qualify for Nationals

In 2011, all countries will have open Nationals. No prior qualification is necessary!
National Championships can be attended by all players who either have a permanent residence in that country or are of the respective country’s nationality.

Structure

• All National Championships will be Advanced Constructed format.
• All National Championships will consist of a number of Swiss-style rounds, dependant on the number of participants, as follows:

• After those Swiss rounds, there will be a cut to the Top 8 players, who will continue to play in single-elimination mode.

• For National Championships that have more than 128 players, the organizer can choose to cut to Top16 instead. This choice will be announced at the beginning of the tournament.
• For National Championships that have more than 256 players, the organizer can choose to cut to Top32 instead. This choice will be announced at the beginning of the tournament.

• There is a playoff match between the two semifinals losers, to determine 3rd and 4th place.
• The top-finishing players qualify for the European Championships, as follows:

 

Dragon Duel

One of the side events offered at Nationals will be specifically designed towards junior players. This event will be open to all players born in 1998 or later, and it will offer prizes similar to the ones used at the main event. This Dragon Duel tournament is a stand-alone event: No qualification is necessary to compete in it, and it doesn’t offer any qualifications to higher-level events.

The set of WCQ Nationals prize cards will become legal for tournament play on July 5th, 2011. Those cards may not be used in events before that date.
