PING XIAO TRIUMPHS AT LAST YU-GI-OH! CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES OF 2011!

23-year old from Bristol bests the field at Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH’s event in Brighton, UK

Christmas came early for Ping Xiao last Sunday, when he was crowned Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series (YCS) Champion at the UK’s Brighton Centre - but he was made to fight for his new title and the prizes that came with it.

Over the course of the two-day event, and a total of 14 rounds, he proved his skill time and again in a field of 725 competitors from more than a dozen countries, before finally facing off against 18-year old Nathan Pang from Cornwall.

Ping as well as Nathan had every reason to be confident when they went into the final, as they were both playing decks centered around Rescue Rabbit, a card from the brand new booster Photon Shockwave. Both had racked up an impressive track record over the course of the weekend, and both proved to be skilful and tough players.

At the end of a tense Duel, Xiao activated Leviair the Sea Dragon for the winning move and claimed the title, along with a prize package containing a Notebook PC, an exclusive YCS Prize Card and Game Mat, an invitation to the 2012 World Championship Qualifier tournament and much more.

Duelists and attendees who did not play in the main tournament were invited to try their skills in different public events, competing for oversized Yu-Gi-Oh! cards, exclusive gamemats and other prizes. A special treat awaits Hendrik Wytze Kluitenberg, who won the YCS Anniversary Trial on Sunday and received a paid trip to the 100th YCS event in Long Beach, California next March.
While this marks the last Premier Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game event for this year, Duelists across Europe won’t have long to wait until 2012 kicks off with the next YCS stop in Leipzig, Germany, across the weekend of February 25th-26th.
