RE-LAUNCHED Yu-Gi-Oh! CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES COMES DOWN TO A BATTLE OF WITS AND CARDS AS CHENG WINS IT ALL!
El Segundo, CA (May 20, 2010) – The re-christened Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series (YCS), with the latest stop in its ongoing six-year run this weekend, at the Dulles Expo & Conference Center, did not disappoint as nearly 800 Duelists vied for the coveted first place ranking. But it was Peter Cheng that successfully out-Dueled the field of skilled opponents to claim the title of Champion at this debut event.
Formerly known as the SHONEN JUMP Championship, the first event under the billing of the Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series drew an impressive array of Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME (TCG) fans who came from across the mid-Atlantic and as faraway as Germany to compete. Thousands of Duels were fought over the course of the weekend but it was Peter Cheng from Union, NJ who went head-to-head with Steven Harris from Bronx, NY in the final round, and brought home the title.
With a backdrop of peers watching every play of the cards, and with only a few hushed whispers heard throughout the hall, Cheng, 19 years old, played a Machina Gadget Deck to finish-off 19 year old Harris who skillfully played an Infernity Deck.
Peter received an Ultra Rare set of three YCS Prize Cards, a trophy, paid travel to this year’s National Championship in July (or to another YCS), a YCS Game Mat, and a Netbook computer with 500 BoosterPass points for Yu-Gi-Oh! Online Duel Accelerator. Other top Duelists walked away with prize packages that included items such as a Super Rare set of three YCS Prize Cards, a personal music player, and a YCS Game Mat.
