Round 7 Top Table Update:

It’s Round 7, and with three rounds remaining here in Day 1, it’s a great chance to look at what’s at the top tables! The ‘top tables’ are where the players with the strongest records so far today are playing against each other. So it’s a good indicator of which Duelist and Deck types are successful so far.

Here’s what the Decks at the top 10 tables looks like:

Table 1
Chi Hoi Yim with Lightsworn
versus
Mark Vazquez with Lightsworn

Table 2
Jason Campbell with Destiny Hero Zombies
versus
Peter Cheng with Lightsworn

Table 3
Roy St. Clair with Destiny Hero Zombies
versus
Samuel Jones with Lightsworn

Table 4
Glenn Lightfoot with Lightsworn
versus
Russel LaParre with Gladiator Beasts

Table 5
Robert Ackerman with Lightsworn
versus
Allen Pennington with Gadgets

Table 6
Gerado Torres with Single-Vayu Blackwings
versus
Russel Rothman with Lightsworn

Table 7
Afatah Abdul with Lightsworn
versus
Daniel Brown with Lightsworn Blackwings

Table 8
Patrick Hoban with Single-Vayu DARK Control
versus
Christopher Yarbrough with Lightsworn

Table 9
Jorge Miranda with Lightsworn
versus
Jesse Galolet with Gladiator Beasts

Table 10
Tyler Stechman with Single-Vayu Blackwings
versus
Drake Harmon with Lightsworn

Here’s the breakdown of how many Duelists are playing what:

Lightsworn: 11
Gladiator Beasts: 2
Blackwings: 2
Destiny Hero Zombies: 2
Gadgets: 1
Lightsworn Blackwings: 1
Vayu DARK Control: 1

Lightsworn are clearly the most common Deck at the top tables right now, but the other half of the metagame seems wide open. It’s a safe bet that a lot of Lightsworn Decks are going to make it to Day 2.But what will the rest of the field look like?Right now it’s totally up in the air.

2:00 PM – Side Events Are Starting

Well, we’ve got one Win-A-Mat Tournament under way, and the Dragon Duel is about to get started. Looks like most of the players here today are still in the main tournament and halfway through round 3.

1:00 The Bounties Are Announced!>

All right, the Bounty Feature was so popular at SHONEN JUMP Championship Indianapolis that we decided to do it here in Orlando. I looked over the Master Player List as the players were preparing for the player meeting, looking for ten good choices.

There were certainly plenty to choose from – we’ve got so many people here today. It was a tough choice, but here are the Bounty Duelists for this event:

  1. Richard Clarke – Famous for his dedication to Dragon builds, how can we pass him up?
  2. Satoshi Kato – He made it all the way to the World Championship as one of the four Japanese representatives, and I hear he’s a pretty cool guy.
  3. Fili Luna – He’s a four-time SHONEN JUMP Championship winner, fresh off a win at GenCon. His “little teapot” impression is well worth seeing.
  4. Kenroy Milliner – I just think he’s got an awesome name. I hadn’t met Kenroy before, and now I have.
  5. Mike Powers – He’s running a fairly unique deck, and Mike’s always interesting at a SHONEN JUMP Championship!
  6. Rodrigo Togores – National Champion from Spain, and an intriguing hairstyle to boot.
  7. John Jensen – John won the first SHONEN JUMP Championship I head judged in Indy several years ago, plus it’s nice to see one of the real powerhouse local players back on the tournament scene.
  8. Ryan Hayakawa – Longtime familiar face in the Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME, Ryan was also on my flight from Los Angeles. He and his father also went to the wrong baggage claim area at Orlando.
  9. Jarel Winston – Will Lightsworns take the spotlight in Orlando? Jarel took the Deck quite far at SHONEN JUMP Championship Anaheim, with a friendly and laid back attitude.
  10. Dale Bellido – Well, we need at least one Canadian, don’t we? Dale’s a solid, knowledgeable player who always attracts attention.

There we are! A fine lot of Bounty Duelists. I’ll keep you updated throughout the day on how they’re all doing…so far, Richard Clarke, Dale Bellido, Fili Luna, John Jensen, and Jarel Winston are undefeated heading into Round 3.

10:00 Registration is Closed – 670 Players!

The room just kept filling up, as more and more players arrived. We are hovering just on the brink of capacity here today, with 673 Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME Duelists ready for a weekend’s worth of Dueling. People traveled for long distances to get here – carloads drove down from as far away as Virginia, there’s a contingent of Canadians in stylish matching hockey jerseys, and we even have the Spanish National Champion Rodrigo Togores and one of the four Japanese representatives from this year’s World Championship, Satoshi Kato. With plenty of seasoned players and scores of first-time Jump competitors, this should be a great tournament weekend.
