Gilbert Santa Rosa is playing a Deck called “Junk and Debris,” named after the two Tuner monsters that it focuses on: “Junk Synchron” and “Debris Dragon.” Since both Tuners have effects that Special Summon monsters from the Graveyard, it’s pretty easy to make a Synchro Summon every turn. Combine frequent Synchro Summons with “Chaos Sorcerers” and “Dark Armed Dragon,” and you’ve got some serious firepower.
This Deck isn’t fueled by Destiny Heroes, Psychics, or “Rescue Cat” like some other popular Synchro Decks. It uses Neo-Spacians instead, making for some crazy combos and a lot of extra draw power.

“The Deck’s first priority is to load up its Graveyard so that “Junk Synchron” and “Debris Dragon” can Special Summon with their effects. “Cross Porter” is ideal for this. Santa Rosa can send “Cross Porter” to the Graveyard with “Foolish Burial” or “Armageddon Knight,” then search his Deck for any one of his three different Neo-Spacians: “Neo-Spacian Dark Panther,” “Neo-Spacian Glow Moss,” or “Neo-Spacian Grand Mole.” Once “Cross Porter” is in the Graveyard, it can be Special Summoned with “Junk Synchron” or “Debris Dragon,” making a Level 5 or 6 Synchro Monster.
While Santa Rosa is loading his Graveyard, he can search out “Neo-Spacian Grand Mole” to get rid of a big monster, or “Neo-Spacian Dark Panther” to mimic effects like those of “Judgment Dragon” or “Dark Armed Dragon.” If he doesn’t need either, he can get “Neo-Spacian Glow Moss” to discard for the Neo-Spacian draw Spell “Convert Contact.”
Glow Moss can be Special Summoned with “Debris Dragon,” unleashing a Level 7 Dragon-Type Synchro Monster like “Black Rose Dragon” or “Ancient Fairy Dragon.” Glow Moss is also a LIGHT monster, which means it’s the lynchpin of one of Santa Rosa’s favorite plays. “One of the best combos would have to be activating “Convert Contact,” sending Dark Panther and Glow Moss to the Graveyard so you can Special Summon “Chaos Sorcerer”!” If he’s got a Dark Panther in hand, he can even drop two DARK monsters to the Graveyard for “Dark Armed Dragon,” too.
With the right cards, Santa Rosa can do even more than that. “I’ve got some great options, like Tuning “Debris Dragon” to “Iron Chain Dragon” for “Trident Dragion.” I can do it second turn!” By activating “Foolish Burial” and sending “Dandylion” to the Graveyard, Santa Rosa can Special Summon two Level 1 “Fluff Tokens.” By Tuning the Tokens to “Debris Dragon,” Rosa can Synchro Summon “Iron Chain Dragon.” Next turn, a second “Debris Dragon” can let him Special Summon a second monster to feed to “Trident Dragion’s” effect, so when Dragion is Synchro Summoned it’ll be able to attack two times in one turn.
Santa Rosa is also using a pair of “Tragoedia.” Its Level-matching effect and ability to steal your opponent’s monsters can help set up even more Synchro Summons. To make room, Santa Rosa decided not to run “Treeborn Frog.” If he included “Treeborn Frog,” he could turn what would be a Level 7 Synchro Summon with “Debris Dragon” into a Level 8 instead. Santa Rosa won’t be able to do that, but he’s still got “Fluff Tokens” to fill that role, so we’ll see if this choice pays off.
This build is also being played by Santa Rosa’s friends Raul Pena and Jean Coroda (Santa Rosa credits Coroda as the mastermind behind the Deck), and there might be more Duelists playing different versions of Junk and Debris in today’s competition. Will one of them make Day 2? It’s definitely too early to tell, but one thing’s for certain: everyone playing this Deck is going to have a blast surprising their opponents here today!reported by
