Welcome to the 2009 U .S. National Championship!
Almost 3 months ago, Duelists from across the globe gathered in Anaheim, California to shock the world, as 858 competitors gathered to play in one of the biggest Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME tournaments ever – SHONEN JUMP Championship Anaheim. But today, America’s Duelists have shattered every record to date. Because today, over 1200 competitors have gathered here at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh for the 2009 U.S. National Championship. This is the biggest Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME tournament ever to be held in North America!
Two weeks ago the Canadian National Championship was captured by Charles Easton, as he triumphed over a Top 8 field that saw Synchro Cat, Gladiator Beasts, Lightsworn, and Blackwings in contention for the title. The Deck and tech trends we saw there are sure to be present at today’s competition, as well. These four Decks are the top strategies anticipated today, and each has been taken to recent new heights. Will we see even more innovation today? This is a Deck builder’s format, and it’s a great opportunity for new, creative competitors to make a name for themselves.
There are hundreds of prizes on offer this weekend, and each competitor will go home with a “Judgment Dragon” vs. “Dark Armed Dragon” National Championship Game Mat plus a set of 4 Ultra Rare 2009 National Championship Token cards. For the finalists, electronics, entire sets of cards, stacks of Ghost Rares, trophies, and a copy of the SHONEN JUMP Championship Prize Card “Dark End Dragon” are all on the line, but the real prize can’t be bought or sold: four trips to Tokyo will be awarded to the Top 4. The 4 Duelists who are lucky enough, skilled enough, and mentally tough enough to make Top 4 this weekend will be rewarded with a trip to Japan, and receive the privilege of representing the United States of America at the World Championship in August. It’s the ultimate Dueling honor, and the only way to get there is to battle through fifteen rounds in the toughest tournament on the planet.
