Yesterday we shattered all expectations, as an unprecedented 1205 Duelists gathered right here, at the David L Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh. For the Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME this isn’t just the biggest U.S. National Championship of all time – it’s the biggest tournament in North American history! SHONEN JUMP Championship Anaheim, Philadelphia, and even Costa Mesa have been toppled, and today we’ll play the final Swiss Round of competition before the Top 64 playoffs begin.
From there we’ll see four rounds of intense Single Elimination competition, as we narrow the field down to the final four Duelists. Those four competitors will win the privilege of representing the United States in the Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME World Championship in Tokyo this August, but the action doesn’t end there. Two more rounds will take place, and when all is said and done we’ll have a brand new U.S. Champion.
With hundreds of Duelists still in contention this morning the field is wide open, with Blackwings, Lightsworn, Synchro Cat, and Gladiator Beasts still in widespread contention, plus several new and surprising Decks. It’s been a weekend of innovation with tons of exciting single card tech – expect to see some surprising choices in the winning Decks, as Duelists have been borrowing major cards from other archetypes with some startling results. But as the minutes tick down and we get ready for Round 10, it’s impossible to tell who or what will win the day. Seven Rounds of intense Dueling remain, and right now anything can happen!
Welcome to Day 2 of the Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME 2009 U.S. National Championship!
