CANADIAN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Toronto, Canada
June 27-28, 2009

The Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s TRADING CARD GAME’s biggest Canadian National Championship ever is over! 200 Duelists made the trek out to the Metro Toronto Convention Center in downtown Toronto this weekend to shatter previous attendance records for this event! Blackwings, Lightsworn, Synchro Cat, and Gladiator Beasts proved to be the most popular Decks in the Swiss rounds, and we watched all four go head-to-head in the Top 8.

The Top 4 saw Matt Peddle pilot Blackwings to victory over Montreal’s Patrick Lepine-Grenier and his Lightsworn, while Charles Easton played Synchro Cat and narrowly squeaked out a victory over Curtis Bowles, the last Lightsworn Duelist in the competition. A knock-down, drag-out three-Duel clash of Blackwings and Synchro Cat ensued, and at the end of a gasp-worthy match Charles Easton defeated Matt Peddle to score a trip to the World Championship in Tokyo!

We also saw the debut of a number of awesome new prizes, including exclusive card binders for top National Championship competitors, Ultra Rare Token Cards to match, and a gorgeous playmat that featured “Judgment Dragon” and “Dark Armed Dragon.” Competitors in the Dragon Duel series even got to walk away with a copy of the new 2010 Regional Qualifier playmat, an awesome new design featuring the Lightsworn monsters. Top competitors in the main event walked away with complete sets of Raging Battle, handfuls of Ghost Rares, game systems, custom videogame libraries and more. In an unprecedented move the Champion even got his own copy of the current SHONEN JUMP Championship prize card: “Dark End Dragon.”

It was a huge weekend here in Toronto, and our congratulations go out to everyone who helped to make this a record-breaking event for Canada! Congratulations to everyone who competed, and special congrats to our new Canadian National Champion Charles Easton!  We’ll see YOU in Tokyo for the World Championship 2009!
